October 2025: Reading Scores: Can Wisconsin Match Mississippi?

The 2025–27 state budget provided funding for many lowered taxes for most Wisconsinites. The press coverage reflects that. However, one important item that seems to be lost in much of the coverage is the full funding of a 2023 bill that changes Wisconsin’s approach to early reading instruction. The state’s new approach follows the framework implemented by Florida in the early 2000s and adopted by Mississippi in 2013, resulting in what is frequently called the “Mississippi Miracle.”
