Wisconsin 2023 Act 12 made significant changes to county and municipal shared revenue by allocating 20% of the state sales tax collections to local governments. As state sales collections grow, so too will distributions to county government.
The below visual displays County and Municipal Aid (CMA) payments to counties. The full data source can be found on the Department of Revenue website here.
CMA figures for 2026 and 2027 were finalized in the state budget, 2025 Act 15, signed in July. The budget sets a growth rate of 3.4% in 2026 and 2.1% in 2027. These figures are presented below. The figures in the budget are lower than estimates previously published by LFB.
Utility Aid payments are estimated to grow at the same rate as sales tax collections. These estimates will be updates as DOR publishes exactl utility aid payments, typically in August of each year.
