Shared Revenue Interactive Tool for Counties

Wisconsin 2023 Act 12 made significant changes to county and municipal shared revenue by allocating 20% of the state sales tax collections to local governments. As state sales collections grow, so too will distributions to county government.

The below visual displays County and Municipal Aid (CMA) payments to counties, which grow at the same rate as state sales tax collections beginning in 2025. The full data source can be found on the Department of Revenue website here.

CMA figures for 2026 and 2027 listed below are preliminary estimates based on sales tax collection projections provided in January 2025 by the Legislative Fiscal Bureau (found here). LFB projects a 4.9% increase in sales tax collections in FY26 and a 2.9% increase in FY27.

In May 2025, LFB will finalize these projections, at which point the data below will be updated with final CMA figures.
